Adjective/Adverb Test Re-takes

October 13th, 2011 by · 2 Comments · Uncategorized

Just wanted to give a shout out to my little brainiacs! The test scores were outstanding and really made me day!!!

Originally, students didn’t score the way I’d anticipated. So, we reviewed and broke the test down in parts. We did it together. And it was AMAZING. I learned a lot of valuable information as a teacher and I think students appreciated the second chance  to really show me that they understood these parts of speech.

Today we talked about why they think their re-do scores were so much better than the original score. It was helpful so I know what to change up for next year and how to approach future tests.

I’m super proud of what we accomplished in our class this week!

I received this information last week and wanted to spread the word to help support the efforts of Girl Scout Troop 905 as well as contribute to the donation of dialysis for children who need it. Please consider bringing you plastic bottle caps to me throughout the school year. I will see that they are delivered to the girl scouts.
Girl Scout communtiy service project for the year:
We are collecting ALL plastic screw on lids (water, gatorade, shampoo, conditioner, ketchup, syrup, laundry soap, milk, oj, peanut butter, medicine bottles and so on).  Children’s Memorial Hospital will donate 15 minutes of kidney dialysis to children for EVERY cap donated.

Weekly Writing

October 6th, 2011 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

The Weekly Writing short story aassignment that was due tomorrow, 10/7, is no longer due. There were too many technical difficulties with the typewith.me site that students were directed to use to complete the assignment :( I will still read the stories I can access, because I am curious about what was written. However, no grades will be posted in the gradebook.

There is no Weekly Writing assignment being assigned today, 10/6. I will assign the next writing piece next week on 10/14. It  will be due 10/21.

Exciting Afternoon

October 4th, 2011 by · 2 Comments · Uncategorized

Yesterday was quite exciting at the junior high. The power was out in the building for a bit and made for a fun afternoon. In Language Arts we were still able to take notes off the board, but I was exhausted having to do it the “old fashioned way” and not use my technology. When it came to silent reading, we headed outside in the sun so we wouldn’t have to strain our eyes. I’m not sure what other classes were able to accomplish, but I’m happy to report that the afternoon group was awesome and we still carried on with everything we needed to do.

Adjectives & Adverbs test on Thursday!

Writing Assignment Update

October 1st, 2011 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

I wanted to send an email to all parents letting them know to please pass on the message that I have extended the due date for the short story partner writing, but I’ve accidentally deleted my parent contact list!

As of Friday, it was due Monday. I am extending the due date to Friday 10/7. I hope this helps resolve some of the conflicts that pop up when working with another person to meet a deadline. Please spread the word!

4th Week of School

September 22nd, 2011 by · 12 Comments · Uncategorized

Monday – We went to the Mac Lab for a Math MAP Test.

Tuesday – Went over nouns, then took a verbs pre-test.

Wednesday – We had a sub for Mrs. Tonelli his name was Mr. Plese and we all really liked him. He’s a CJHS graduate! We also watched Ransom of Red Chief and then took the test over plot, conflict, and the two stories  we’d read.

Thursday – Mrs. Tonelli put us in groups for our A, B,C, D stations. In our groups we worked on grammar, spelling, reading skills, and did some silent reading. The silent reading group got to play a game half the time, too. After stations, we learned about genre and worked in groups to figure out the genre of different types of stories.

Friday – We did stations again, but rotated to the next stop. We also turned in our Weekly Writing and got the next assignment.
